jane D. Burnside Architects is virtually unique in Northern Ireland for focusing almost exclusively on one-off private homes. Over the past 10 years of designing houses, the practice has changed the public's perception of what it means to be a rural dweller. Stylish contemporary living is actually possible in the countryside!

This philosophy is realized in the rural setting of Jane's architects' studios and family home in the heart of County Antrim. Occupying the formerly abandoned hamlet of Whanstown, this creative renovation project and practice has been the subject of many magazine articles and several national television programmes.

Rural houses must be sensitively integrated into their site and the local landscape, and our expertise at interweaving this aspect into the design of your home has earned the practice an enviable reputation for its success in gaining planning approval.

Although demand for our work is thankfully always high, we have made the conscious decision to stay small. We therefore limit the number of projects we take on each year and this allows the time for Jane to bring her own unique blend of contemporary flair and sensitivity to each and every design.
